Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were the first main Pokémon role-playing games on the Nintendo DS. They take place in the Sinnoh region, which is modeled on Hokkaido, Japan's northern island, and added new Pokémon such as Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup.
They were also the first main Pokémon games with online play, so players could trade and battle over the internet through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The Global Trade Station even let you trade with players around the world, and the games were a huge hit in Japan.
