Mario Kart DS brought the Mario Kart series to the Nintendo DS, with new courses as well as favorite tracks from earlier games. While the top screen shows the race, the bottom screen shows a map, so you can see items and rivals coming.
It was the first Mario Kart you could play online, through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, and friends could also race together nearby even if only one of them owned the game. Easy to carry and easy to share, it became one of the best-selling DS games in Japan.
