Final Fantasy VII was the first main Final Fantasy on the PlayStation. It follows Cloud Strife, a former soldier who joins a small group fighting a powerful company that is draining the planet's life energy. The game mixes 3D characters with detailed backgrounds and movie-like CG scenes.
The series' move from Nintendo's consoles to Sony's PlayStation was big news in Japan, and the game helped the PlayStation become the leading console of its time. Characters such as Cloud, Aerith and Sephiroth are still popular, and the story was remade as a new series of games starting in 2020.
