About
This story takes place in a particular town with two infamous schools in constant dispute: Chidori High, a boys' school predominantly attended by low-class students with damning grades, and its neighbor Kikyo Girls' High, with most of its female students coming from wealthy and prestigious families. One day, high school second-year Rintaro Tsumugi, a fierce-looking but gentle-minded student at Chidori, is helping at his family's patisserie when he encounters a female customer by the name of Kaoruko Waguri. Rintaro enjoys his time with Kaoruko, as she doesn't judge him for his appearance, but this blissful peace is quickly disturbed when Rintaro makes the discovery that Kaoruko is actually a student at Kikyo. This revelation marks the beginning of the two's strenuous tale, as they fight against the limitations placed upon them by their schools and surroundings in an attempt to find their own path!
Character analysis
Rintaro attends Chidori High, a school with a rough reputation in a town where which school you go to says a lot about your social standing. Meeting Kaoruko, from the wealthy, prestigious school next door, puts him on the other side of a class divide the story treats as a real social barrier, not just a backdrop. His perspective gives the series its grounded half of the romance, someone very aware of how differently he and Kaoruko are seen by the world around them.
Kaoruko comes from Kikyo Girls' High, the elite school most of the town assumes produces nothing but privileged, comfortable students. The story uses her relationship with Rintaro to complicate that assumption, suggesting her life carries its own pressures even if they look different from his. Romance stories built around class divides like this one usually work best when neither side is purely envying the other, and her character seems built to carry that balance.
Subaru is part of the wider circle of students connected to Rintaro and Kaoruko's world, navigating the same school rivalry and class tension that defines the town's social landscape. Supporting characters in this kind of setup usually exist to reflect how the central couple's relationship looks from the outside, through the eyes of their peers.
Shohei rounds out the circle of students whose lives intersect with the ongoing rivalry between Chidori High and Kikyo Girls' High. A closer read of his specific appearances would be needed to describe his personality and role with more confidence.
Saku is part of the broader ensemble surrounding Rintaro and Kaoruko, adding another perspective to how the school rivalry and the central romance are seen by the people around them.
