About
Traumatized by a childhood incident with a friend who took exception to his love of traditional dolls, doll-artisan hopeful Gojou Wakana passes his days as a loner, finding solace in the home ec room at his high school. To Wakana, people like beautiful Kitagawa Marin, a trendy girl who's always surrounded by a throng of friends, is practically an alien from another world. But when cheerful Marin--never one to be shy--spots Wakana sewing away one day after school, she barges in with the aim of roping her quiet classmate into her secret hobby: cosplay! Will Wakana's wounded heart be able to handle the invasion from this sexy alien?!
Character analysis
Wakana was mocked as a kid for loving traditional dolls, and that one bad memory has kept him hiding his craft skills from classmates ever since. Marin stumbling onto his sewing hobby and treating it as genuinely impressive, rather than embarrassing, is what finally starts to undo years of that self-consciousness.
Marin is openly enthusiastic about cosplay and the games and characters she loves, with none of the self-consciousness that defines Wakana. Her directness about her own hobby, and her blunt curiosity about his, is what pulls him out of hiding his own interests.
Sajuna has far more experience with cosplay than Marin, and her more competitive, polished approach gives the story a useful contrast to Marin's enthusiastic but amateur energy, pushing both Marin and Wakana to improve.
Hina exists at the edges of Wakana's day-to-day school life, and her presence adds another layer to how his growing involvement with Marin's hobby starts to ripple out into his wider relationships.
Shinju is connected to Sajuna's circle and gets drawn into the story's wider cosplay community, adding another perspective on how seriously different characters take the craft.
