Pick by trip type

Where to stay depends on how you arrive and what kind of trip it is. Choose your airport, then find your trip.

First visit · Osaka-focused tripStay inNamba / Shinsaibashi

Namba / Shinsaibashi

Nankai trains run in from Kansai Airport in about 45 minutes, and from Namba you can walk to Dotonbori and along the Shinsaibashi shopping street. For a first visit built around food and the city at night, this is where Osaka feels most like Osaka.

Osaka plus the shinkansenStay inShin-Osaka

Shin-Osaka

The Haruka limited express runs from Kansai Airport to Shin-Osaka with no change, and the shinkansen leaves from the same station. Sleep here the night before you move on and the morning is just a walk to the platform. There is little to see around the station, so treat it as a base rather than a sightseeing area.

Early-morning arrivalStay inNamba / Shinsaibashi

Namba / Shinsaibashi

Check-in is hours away when you land in the morning, so the question is where to leave your bags. Head straight to Namba on the Nankai line, drop your luggage at the hotel, and the whole of Minami is on foot: breakfast, Dotonbori and the Shinsaibashi shopping street before your room is ready.

Late-night arrivalStay inNear Kansai Airport (Rinku Town)

Near Kansai Airport (Rinku Town)

Kansai Airport sits on an island far from the city, and if your flight lands after the last trains, getting into Osaka gets slow and expensive. Book one night at the airport or across the bridge in Rinku Town instead, and travel into the city fresh the next morning.

Travelling with childrenStay inBay Area (USJ)

Bay Area (USJ)

If Universal Studios Japan is the reason for the trip, stay by the park. A direct airport bus runs from Kansai Airport to the park, so there are no train changes with tired children and luggage, and you can walk back to the hotel for a break in the middle of the day.

On a budget · Long stayStay inTennoji

Tennoji

The Kansai Airport Rapid comes straight to Tennoji, hotels cost less than in Namba, and Nara is an easy day trip from here. Shin-Imamiya, one stop away, is cheaper still, but some blocks there feel rough after dark. Unless price is the only thing that matters, Tennoji gives you nearly the same budget with calmer streets.

Couples · A quieter stayStay inNakanoshima / Kitahama

Nakanoshima / Kitahama

Nakanoshima is an island between two rivers, with museums and old office buildings along the water, and it stays quiet after dark. From Kansai Airport it takes one change, at Tengachaya, and Namba and Umeda are a short ride away when you want a night out.
