About
One day, a wanderer appears out of the wasteland to bring justice to the guilty and hope to the people—a warrior named Ken, a man who bears seven scars upon his chest and holds the secret of a mysterious martial art known as Hokuto Shinken, the Divine Fist of the North Star!
Character analysis
Kenshiro inherits a secret, lethal martial art and wanders a wasteland world dispensing brutal justice to the warlords and gangs preying on the weak. His catchphrase, delivered to enemies right before their pressure points finish them off, became one of the genre's most recognizable images of quiet, overwhelming moral certainty backed by overwhelming physical power.
Rei practices a different deadly martial art and crosses paths with Kenshiro while hunting for his missing sister, and his fierce, personal motivation gives their eventual alliance real weight beyond simple convenience.
Raoh trained under the same master as Kenshiro and chose a path of domination instead of protection, and his massive, almost mythic presence as a conqueror makes him one of the story's most significant rivals, a brother turned into the exact kind of tyrant Kenshiro fights against.
Toki is, by most accounts, the most naturally skilled of the martial brothers, but a radiation-related illness is slowly killing him even as he continues to fight for what's right. His quiet strength in the face of a death he can't fight off gives him a different kind of heroism than Kenshiro's.
Status evaluation
Heavily muscled, dramatic character art and iconic finishing-move poses define the series' visual identity.
The wandering-avenger structure in a post-apocalyptic wasteland gives the series a strong, if episodic, foundation.
This is a grim, violence-driven story with very little comic relief.
The brotherhood between Kenshiro, Raoh, and Toki gives the story real tragic weight beneath the violence.
The post-apocalyptic setting and brutal villains create consistent, grim tension.
Extremely graphic, exploding-body violence is a defining, iconic feature of this series.
The episodic wasteland-wanderer structure is easy to follow despite the brutal content.
This is a completed series. This figure has not been verified against a current source and should be treated as approximate.

“"You are already dead" is one of the most quoted lines in manga history, and the fight that follows it almost always lives up to the hype.”
